You’re Not Alone: Finding Strength and Support at Family Crisis Center

When you're living in fear, it can feel like no one understands what you're going through. You may feel stuck—trapped between the life you have and the life you wish you could give yourself and your children. At Family Crisis Center (FCC), we want you to know one thing: you are not alone.

FCC has helped hundreds of women in our community escape abusive relationships and rebuild their lives. Many of these women had children, no place to go, and no idea what the next step should be. They came through our doors scared, exhausted, and unsure—and they left stronger, safer, and filled with new hope.

We offer more than just emergency shelter.

FCC provides counseling, legal advocacy, job readiness support, and a listening ear. At Marge’s Place, women and children find not only a safe space to stay, but also the chance to rest, heal, and begin again. Whether you need clothing, someone to talk to, or help finding long-term housing, we’re here—without judgment, and with compassion.

Your story matters. You deserve to live free from fear. Whether you’ve just started questioning your relationship or you’ve been planning to leave for a while, FCC is ready to walk beside you. We believe in your strength even when you can’t see it yet.

We see you. We hear you. And we’re here to help.

Reach out today. It could be the first step toward a future full of freedom and peace

Is It Abuse or Just a Bad Relationship? Knowing When It’s Time to Get Help

Relationships are never perfect. Every couple argues, and rough patches are part of life. But when your relationship starts to leave you feeling afraid, small, or unsure of yourself, it may be something more serious.

At Family Crisis Center, we talk to many women who aren’t sure if what they’re experiencing is “really abuse.” Their partner might not hit them but they control the money, threaten to take the kids, or make them feel worthless. Some women live with someone who drinks too much or uses drugs, which makes everything more chaotic and frightening.

Abuse isn’t always physical. It can look like:

            Being constantly criticized or insulted

Not being allowed to see friends or family

Having to ask permission to spend money or leave the house

Being blamed for everything that goes wrong

Being manipulated through fear, guilt, or shame

If any of this feels familiar, it’s okay to ask questions. You don’t have to wait for things to get worse. Talking to someone can help you make sense of your situation and decide what’s best for you and your children.

At FCC, we offer confidential support. No pressure, no judgment. We’re here to listen and give you information, whether you’re ready to leave or just need to talk.

Trust your gut. If something feels wrong, it probably is. You deserve a relationship built on respect, not control.

You’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.

What About the Kids? How Domestic Violence Affects Children and How to Protect Them

If you're a mother living with domestic violence, your first thought is often about your children. You wonder: Are they okay? Are they hurting? Am I doing enough to protect them?

These are questions many women face and they’re not easy. But you’re not alone, and there is help.

Even if children are not physically harmed, living in a home where abuse is happening can deeply affect them. They may struggle with fear, confusion, or guilt. Some children become anxious or withdrawn. Others may act out, trying to make sense of what they’re experiencing.

At Family Crisis Center, we understand how painful this is for mothers. That’s why we provide trauma-informed services for children, including counseling and support groups. We help kids process their experiences and build healthy coping skills because healing should be a family journey.

We also work with moms to help them strengthen their parenting skills, rebuild their confidence, and make safe, empowered decisions for their families. If you feel stuck or overwhelmed, know that reaching out doesn’t mean you’re failing as a parent it means you’re fighting for your child’s future.

You don’t have to wait for a crisis to ask for help. Support is here for both you and your children. Together, we can create a safer, healthier home and break the cycle of violence.

You are doing your best. Let us help you take the next step.
